Judge Tells Trump: You Can't Fire Someone That Fast

Original version ·

Talk about a short commute. Imagine being on the job for exactly sixty minutes before getting the boot.

So, Roger Rogoff finally gets the job as U.S. attorney in Seattle, raises his hand, takes the oath, and barely gets his chair warm before Donald Trump decides he’s gotta go. Less than an hour into the gig, the guy gets fired.

A federal judge just stepped in and hit the brakes, basically telling the White House that you can't just play musical chairs with court-appointed officials. The judge ruled Rogoff is the rightful attorney until the Senate actually confirms a replacement.

It gets weirder: the guy who was apparently running the show in the meantime? The judge says he doesn't have the authority to be there at all. It’s a total mess of a power struggle in the Department of Justice, and they’re already scrambling to appeal it.

Somehow, government efficiency has reached a new, hilarious low.
