A 7.1 earthquake hit Japan and trapped shoppers inside a mall
Going to the mall in Japan just became an action movie scene nobody asked for.
A massive 7.1 magnitude quake just rocked southwestern Japan, triggering evacuation orders for hundreds of thousands of people. While Japan is basically built to handle shaking, things took a crazy turn at a mall in Kumamoto.
People were actually being evacuated when an explosion ripped through the building, causing the second floor to collapse. Dozens of shoppers got trapped inside the rubble right after surviving the initial quake.
Thousands of soldiers were deployed for rescue efforts, and even with cracked roads and fires across the area, the nearby Sendai Nuclear Power Plant somehow reported zero damage, according to the IAEA.
Buying groceries should never require urban survival skills.
