Israel and Lebanon sign a peace deal, but Hezbollah didn't get the memo
Everyone sat down in Washington to sign a ceasefire agreement, but the folks actually doing the fighting are busy ignoring it.
So, Israel and Lebanon just inked a ceasefire deal in Washington. Sounds great on paper, right? There is just one tiny, massive problem: Hezbollah, the group that is actually running the show on the ground, wasn't invited to the party and is already telling everyone to get lost.
The plan is for Israel to pull back, but only if Hezbollah puts down its weapons. Naim Kassem, the guy currently calling the shots for the group, basically said they’ll keep firing until Israel leaves. Meanwhile, Israel is already planning for an 'extended stay' and keeps hitting targets. The whole agreement relies on the Lebanese Army doing the job that Israel couldn't or wouldn't do itself, which is basically expecting a group to disarm their own neighbors while they are under fire.
It is almost impressive to see two governments sign a contract for a war they are not even the ones currently fighting.
