Israel opens probe into Hind Rajab killing after years of delay

It only took a major award-winning film and global outrage for the military to finally call for a look into a tragedy everyone already saw happen.

Back in 2024, Hind Rajab, a five-year-old girl, was trapped in a car with her deceased family. She called for help, and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society sent an ambulance. The military then fired on that ambulance, too, killing the medics.

For a long time, officials swore no troops were anywhere near the scene. Now, after the story was immortalized in an award-winning film, the military is suddenly opening a criminal investigation into "coordination failures." It is a curious pivot considering how often these internal probes seem to just vanish into the legal ether.

Justice often moves at the speed of a PR crisis rather than the speed of truth.
