Donald Trump just annexed Iceland on the internet and they are not amused

Original version ·

Diplomacy is officially dead, as the former president decided a map is the best way to start an international incident.

So, Donald Trump decided to post a map where the entire North American continent—plus Iceland, because why not?—is just one big USA flag. Naturally, Iceland didn't take the joke very well. They actually summoned the U.S. ambassador, Billy Long, to explain what the hell is going on. It’s hard to be diplomatic when your protector starts treating your country like a backyard expansion project.

This isn't the first time Billy Long has had to deal with this. He already had to apologize for joking about Iceland becoming the 52nd state. The mood in Reykjavik is shifting from confused amusement to actual worry, as the country that famously has no military realizes their main ally might just be a bit too enthusiastic about borders.

Turns out, being an international superpower doesn't mean you can just Photoshop your neighbors out of existence without someone asking for a meeting.
