ICE Is Buying $16.7 Million Worth of Electric Shock Gloves
Because nothing says 'de-escalation' like giving agents a pair of high-voltage mittens.
So ICE just dropped nearly 17 million bucks on 6,000 pairs of shock gloves. They call them GLOVE — which is short for Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter. Catchy, right?
These things cost about 2,500 dollars a pair, and the agency is calling them a non-lethal de-escalation tool. Apparently, the plan is to use them when things get heated, because nothing screams 'calm down' like literally jolting someone with electricity upon contact.
The company behind this, Compliant Technologies, says agents should give people a chance to comply before turning on the power. Meanwhile, a bunch of senators are freaking out, pointing out that ICE has a pretty spotty record with excessive force lately.
It is definitely one way to handle a budget surplus.
