ICE caught feeding Medicaid data to Palantir
So, it turns out the federal government has been handing over sensitive healthcare data to a massive defense tech contractor. Because nothing says "privacy" like sharing medical records with a company named after a fictional evil wizard ball.
This all came to light thanks to a federal lawsuit by a bunch of states trying to stop ICE from using health records to help with deportations. During the fight, it emerged that the agency had a massive pile of Medicaid data they literally were not supposed to have in the first place.
Naturally, when a government agency finds itself sitting on a treasure trove of forbidden medical records, it doesn't delete them. Instead, they handed it over to Palantir, the controversial big-data contractor known for helping the government track, well, pretty much everyone.
The database designed to help low-income families get doctor visits somehow became a search engine for federal deportation agents.
