California's largest ICE facility scored a clean 0 out of 8 on healthcare

Original version ·

A court-ordered medical inspection of California's biggest immigrant detention facility just dropped, and the report card is an absolute disaster.

A federal judge sent an independent medical expert out into the Mojave Desert to inspect conditions at the California City Detention Facility across eight basic healthcare categories. Lawsuits had already alleged people were being denied insulin and cancer treatment.

The official result: the facility failed literally every single one of the eight categories. Delayed meds, missed assessments, nonexistent follow-ups — a total clean sweep of medical neglect.

Staff admitted the site was originally meant to hold people "in good health." But amid record crackdowns that pushed total detainees past 65,000 nationwide, ICE shipped in hundreds of people with severe chronic illnesses into a desert warehouse without adequate medical staff or oversight.

Private prison operator CoreCivic naturally responded with the classic corporate line that "nothing matters more" to them than the health and well-being of the people in their care.

Failing eight out of eight basic health metrics while calling safety a top priority is truly a masterclass in PR spin.

0 for 8 is wild... how do you fail every single category without trying

Private prisons getting paid billions of taxpayer dollars to withhold basic insulin. System working as intended I guess.
