ICE Shoots Worker in Maine Who Wasn't Even Their Target

Federal immigration agents rolled up to a house in Maine, shot a driver fleeing the scene, and then quietly admitted they killed the wrong guy.

Federal immigration agents showed up at a residential address in a small town to arrest someone slated for deportation. A young driver pulled out of the driveway, refused to stop when agents intercepted him, and fled. Claiming they feared for public safety, an officer opened fire and killed him.

Then came the plot twist: the man killed was not even the target of the arrest warrant. He was a 26-year-old legal worker with a valid Social Security number who just happened to be leaving the house.

To make matters worse, none of the officers involved were wearing body cameras. This marks the second time in less than a week that federal agents killed someone who wasn't the actual suspect, following a nearly identical fatal shooting in Houston.

Opening fire on fleeing vehicles while hunting suspects without body cameras is turning out to be a disastrous strategy for public safety.
