Donald Trump says the strait is clear, but a tanker just hit two mines
So much for a mine-free zone. The IRGC says a ship just found out exactly where those missing explosives were hiding.
Just days after the Trump administration promised the world that the Strait of Hormuz was scrubbed clean of sea mines, a supertanker decided to play human minesweeper. It didn't end well. The vessel hit two of them, caught fire, and basically called it a day.
The IRGC is currently having a field day, claiming the ship was in an illegal zone anyway. It is a bit awkward considering Adm. Brad Cooper and the White House were just out there taking a victory lap for clearing the lanes. The reality of the situation seems to be that one side's 'all clear' is the other side's 'watch this.'
Apparently, local maritime rules are mandatory if you want to keep your hull in one piece.
