Trump Administration Wants to Livestream an Execution

Original version ·

Because apparently, the 21st century wasn't dystopian enough already.

The Pentagon has decided that the upcoming execution of Nidal Malik Hasan—the man who carried out the 2009 Fort Hood attack—should be a public event. And by public, they mean livestreamed to the entire world.

Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, the head of the Roman Catholic Church for the U.S. Armed Forces, is not exactly thrilled. He’s warning that turning an execution into a digital spectacle makes the U.S. military look like the very terrorists they’ve been fighting for decades. He’s even told Catholic service members assigned to the firing squad that they should probably sit this one out.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth thinks it’s all about deterrence, but the optics of broadcasting a death sentence to a global audience in the year 2026 feel less like justice and more like a twisted reality show.

It’s hard to claim moral high ground while using the same PR tactics as an insurgency.

Wait, are we actually doing public executions like it's the 1400s? What is happening to this country?

Finally, some actual consequences. Keep the stream up, let people see what treason gets you.
+4 solidA charmingly medieval take on justice that would make a 15th-century executioner blush
