Bill Gates: Regulating AI Is Harder Than Nukes

Original version ·

Turns out the tech world is a bigger headache to police than the Cold War nuclear arms race.

Bill Gates Gates thinks wrangling global AI rules is going to be a tougher gig than nuclear disarmament ever was. While the White House is currently riding the wave of "whoever wins AI, wins," Gates is busy pointing out that global tech oversight might actually prevent us from accidentally deleting humanity.

The current vibe is basically a digital space race with China, but some researchers are already out here suggesting we might be toast by the end of the decade. Gates insists that setting up guardrails won't actually handicap the US, despite what the suits in charge might think.

It is wild that we are trying to manage super-intelligence with the same energy used to avoid a nuclear winter.
