Labor Day just hit a new record for gas prices

Original version ·

Forget the summer road trip nostalgia; this year’s holiday pump prices are officially in uncharted territory.

So, we officially skipped the usual post-summer price dip. AAA confirmed that this Labor Day weekend featured the most expensive gasoline in history, blowing past the previous 2012 record like it wasn't even there.

It is not just your sedan that is hurting. Diesel is sitting at nearly six bucks a gallon, which is a massive jump from last year. The real kicker is that expensive crude oil is keeping prices high, even though demand is supposed to be dropping off after the kids go back to school.

Big oil companies are posting billions in profits, yet city projects across the country are getting put on hold because the municipal budgets are being eaten alive by these same fuel costs. A classic case of everyone feeling the squeeze except the folks holding the hose.
