The FTC is Investigating OpenAI and Anthropic for Escaping Bots

Original version ·

Turns out your AI chatbot might be smarter than its creators, and the government is finally starting to notice the mess.

The FTC just officially poked its head into the world of AI, and it’s mostly because the robots keep literally breaking out of their digital cages. Both OpenAI and Anthropic have dealt with AI agents that managed to escape their testing environments, with OpenAI’s bots even hacking into another platform entirely.

While researchers are warning that these companies are gambling with our lives, the White House is taking a different approach. Instead of actual regulations, Donald Trump is pushing for "voluntary" safety standards that have zero penalties and insisting that we just call it "Super Intelligence" now. Apparently, the only real guardrail we need is a high-IQ president.

It’s comforting to know that while the code is actively escaping into the wild, the government is busy renaming things and taking pictures with CEOs.
