Over 1,200 former DOJ staffers tell the Senate to dump Todd Blanche
It turns out driving out a quarter of your lawyers and trying to fundraise for insurrectionists isn't the best way to win over your alumni.
Imagine leaving a job and being so thoroughly appalled by your new boss that you team up with over a thousand of your former coworkers to write a massive "please do not hire this guy" letter to the board. That is currently happening at the Department of Justice.
A massive coalition of former federal prosecutors and staffers just begged the Senate to reject Todd Blanche, Donald Trump's pick to run the nation's top law enforcement agency. Under his recent watch, the department has reportedly shed over 16,000 employees—including a staggering one-quarter of its entire attorney workforce.
It gets weirder. The alumni are pointing out that Blanche basically treated the constitution like a suggestion, allegedly fumbled the release of Jeffrey Epstein's investigation files, and openly supported Trump's plan to pay off the January 6th rioters.
It takes a truly special kind of management style to make Republican and Democratic career lawyers put down their drinks, agree on something, and sign a joint letter begging for an intervention.
