FCC Chair says taxpayer-funded Trump ads are just 'normal' PSAs

Original version ·

Apparently, the government is now airing campaign-style videos as public service announcements, and the head of the FCC says there is nothing to see here.

So, the White House has started dropping serious cash on TV ads that look suspiciously like campaign spots. They feature Donald Trump railing against the 'deep state' or talking about his love for the country, all while being paid for by your tax dollars.

Critics are screaming that this is basically state-sponsored propaganda. But Brendan Carr, the chair of the FCC, is waving it off. He insists these are just standard public service announcements that both parties do all the time. He even laughed when asked about complaints that one of these ads is just a re-run of a campaign spot.

Meanwhile, the artist JMSN is busy sending cease-and-desist letters because their music is being used in these clips without permission. It turns out that when the government wants to run a PSA, it apparently doesn't need to worry about pesky things like licensing fees or the appearance of political bias.

If the government can just rebrand campaign ads as public service announcements, there is technically no limit to what can be sold to voters on the taxpayer's dime.
