ShinyHunters Just Hacked the FBI Because They Felt 'Offended'
You know your cybersecurity is having a rough day when the people you’re investigating decide to dox your entire staff for calling them names.
A hacking group called ShinyHunters claims they’ve snagged the personal records of basically every FBI agent and job applicant out there. They didn't just grab names; we’re talking addresses, phone numbers, and even medical details. They pulled this off by hitting the FBI jobs portal, which is currently sitting offline like it’s nursing a massive digital migraine.
The group’s motive is pure petty chaos. Apparently, they were deeply offended by an official advisory the agency put out that labeled them extortionists. They’ve given FBI Director Kash Patel and cybersecurity lead Brett Leatherman a week to scrub the warning, or who knows what’s next.
The FBI says they’re investigating, which is feds-speak for 'we have no idea how deep this hole goes.' It’s a bold move to try and bully the feds, but then again, they already have the data.
When the people whose job it is to catch criminals are the ones getting blackmailed, the power dynamic in the room gets real weird.
