Trump's Education Department is basically packing its bags for good
If you were wondering if the Education Department was actually going to close, they’re currently busy mailing their furniture to other agencies.
The Department of Education is carving itself up like a Thanksgiving turkey. Linda McMahon announced that civil rights enforcement is heading over to the Department of Justice, while special education is getting shipped off to HHS.
The official line is all about cutting red tape and finding a better home for these programs. But in reality, they are systematically dismantling the entire agency piece by piece. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. seems happy to take on the new baggage, but advocates are screaming that this is just a way to bury public education support under layers of bureaucracy.
It turns out the easiest way to shut down a government department is just to give all your work to someone else and turn off the lights. It’s hard to call it an agency when the only thing left in the building is the lease agreement.
