DOJ Sues to Freeze Alaska Senate Race if Democrat Wins Against Two Dan Sullivans

Original version ·

The feds are preemptively suing to block an election result before the votes are even counted, all thanks to an accidental political clone.

In Alaska's Senate race, incumbent Republican Dan S. Sullivan is locked in a tight battle against Democrat Mary Peltola. But there is a catch: another guy named Dan J. Sullivan Jr. got onto the ballot as an unaffiliated candidate.

The Justice Department is so terrified voters will confuse the two Dans that they filed a federal lawsuit demanding courts block the certification of the race if Peltola wins. The DOJ argues that if the combined tally of both Dan Sullivans beats the Democrat, the results shouldn't stand because the vote was unfairly split.

Donald Trump wasted no time taking credit, telling reporters he personally ordered the suit.

Pre-ordering a federal injunction just in case the ballot math looks bad is definitely one way to manage election anxiety.

Filing a preemptive federal lawsuit before the votes are even counted sets an insane precedent.
+4 solidA rare moment of clarity pointing out that the DOJ is essentially speedrunning the destruction of democratic norms
