Democrats won the midterms, now comes the hard part

Original version ·

The victory lap is over and the real math problem begins for Democrats.

So, the Democrats actually managed to pull off some wins in the midterms. They campaigned on the standard hits: making life cheaper and cleaning up the corruption in Washington. It is a nice list of promises, but now the party has to actually make it happen.

The issue? The Democratic Party is not exactly a hive mind. It is a collection of people with wildly different ideas about what counts as progress. Keeping this group in line is going to be like herding cats in a rainstorm. They promised to lower costs, but passing actual legislation requires getting everyone to agree on the same page, which has historically been their biggest talent for avoiding.

A win is just an invitation to start the next argument.
