Delta Puts Riyadh Flights on Hold After Airport Under Fire
Turns out, launching a new international route is a bit harder when the destination airport is actively being targeted by missiles.
Delta was all set to launch its first-ever nonstop flight from Atlanta to Riyadh next week, but they just hit the brakes until March. It turns out that Houthi militants have been turning the King Khalid International Airport into a target zone, with a dozen people killed and hundreds injured recently.
The Federal Aviation Administration basically told every airline to steer clear, and Delta CEO Ed Bastian Ed Bastian finally decided that maybe, just maybe, flying passengers into a war zone isn't the best look for customer service. Safety protocols usually win over expansion plans when actual bombs are involved.
It is almost as if consistent peace is a prerequisite for global travel infrastructure.
