Another death at Delaney Hall: Is this facility just a black hole?
The body count at a private detention center is climbing, and the government's response is basically 'nothing to see here.'
So, another guy died in custody at Delaney Hall. This makes at least the third death in a year at this place. Edwin Lopez-Cornejo, a dad who’d been living here for two decades, collapsed after complaining about his health. He was rushed to a hospital, but it was too late.
Here’s the kicker: ICE recently changed its policy so they don’t have to report deaths if they happen shortly after a prisoner is released to a hospital. It’s a neat little accounting trick to keep the official numbers looking clean while people die on their watch.
Lawmakers are calling this place a billion-dollar disaster, citing reports of 100-degree heat, inedible food, and zero medical care. Meanwhile, the facility just keeps running, raking in a massive contract, while everyone inside basically begs for someone to notice they’re human.
It turns out that if you stop counting the bodies, you can pretend the problem doesn’t exist.
