Trump-era clinics claim they can spot an ectopic pregnancy, but scientists say nope

Original version ·

Turns out some places meant to help are essentially playing doctor with life-threatening medical issues.

So, the federal government under Donald Trump has been funneling a lot more love and funding toward these anti-abortion centers. The problem? A new watchdog report says plenty of them are out here telling patients they can 'rule out' ectopic pregnancies.

For anyone who skipped biology, an ectopic pregnancy is a medical emergency where the embryo attaches outside the uterus. It is life-threatening. You need an actual hospital, not a pamphlet and a prayer. Telling someone they’re in the clear based on a basic ultrasound scan performed by someone who isn't a qualified radiologist is basically a game of Russian roulette with someone else's life.

It is wild that we are at a point where a political agenda is being prioritized over basic diagnostic standards. When ideology starts performing medicine, reality usually ends up being the biggest casualty.
