Cornell finally agrees to outside review after brutal assault allegations
It only took enough public pressure for the university to realize that 'we handled it internally' wasn't going to cut it anymore.
So, Cornell University has finally agreed to bring in outside investigators to look at how they handled a truly horrific case of sexual assault. A student alleged she was gang-raped by seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity, but the school’s initial response was effectively nothing. It got so bad that the victim had to leave campus while the accused stayed put.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul Hochul got involved this week, and suddenly the university found its motivation to act. Even the local DA is taking another look at the case after initially letting it slide. The university basically ignored a nightmare scenario until politicians started making noise on social media.
It’s wild how fast an internal investigation becomes a 'top priority' the second a governor starts demanding answers.
