Internet Sleuths Are Making the Cornell Assault Case Even Worse
It’s bad enough to report a crime at Cornell, but now random people online are playing detective and doxing the wrong victims.
A student who reported a horrific sexual assault at a Cornell University fraternity is currently being hounded by internet detectives trying to unmask her identity. Her lawyer says the situation is dire, with random women being incorrectly targeted by these self-appointed investigators.
The victim, who was drugged, claims she was assaulted by seven men back in 2024. Despite her filing a report, the local authorities didn't press charges initially. The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, eventually stepped in, basically calling out local law enforcement for burying the victim's own testimony. The original police report somehow conveniently left out the victim stating she was 100% sure she was assaulted.
Now the state's Attorney General Letitia James is taking over, but the victim is stuck in a digital crossfire. It turns out that when the system fails to protect someone, the internet decides to fill the void with harassment instead.
