Eight shot, including four kids, at Coney Island fireworks

Original version ·

Because apparently, celebrating America’s birthday now legally requires someone to ruin a family outing with gunfire. Welcome to summer in the city.

The plan was simple: watch some pretty lights in the sky over the boardwalk, eat some junk food, and go home. Instead, the night ended with panic, screaming, and first responders rushing to the scene. A shooter opened fire right into the crowd during the fireworks show, turning a classic holiday tradition into absolute chaos.

Among the victims were four boys, some as young as six and seven years old. The NYPD has made no arrests so far, and investigators are still scratching their heads trying to figure out why anyone would choose this exact moment to start blasting.

The local authorities are left looking for answers while families are left wondering if even a simple beach holiday is off-limits now.

+1 boringStating the obvious about a crowd-based escape is about as helpful as a screen door on a submarine
