Tennessee Just Failed to Execute Christa Pike and It’s a Mess

Original version ·

The state tried to end a life and the system couldn't even manage that properly.

So, Tennessee decided it was time to move forward with the execution of Christa Pike. They administered two separate doses of lethal injection, which is usually the point where things are considered final. Except, she didn't die.

The state literally botched the process, leaving the inmate alive after multiple attempts. It’s hard to call a system “efficient” or “just” when it can’t even execute its own core, brutal function without turning into a chaotic disaster.

A justice system that can't reliably perform the ultimate punishment is just highlighting how broken the machinery really is.
