Canadian Wildfire Smoke Hot-Boxes the Midwest and East Coast Again
Just when you thought summer air was meant for breathing, Canada decided to turn half of America into a giant smoke lounge.
Milwaukee managed to log an Air Quality Index over 600, which isn't just "stay inside" territory—that is full-on apocalyptic lore. Down in Detroit, the haze got so thick inside a Ford assembly plant that several workers ended up in the hospital, while a scheduled John Mellencamp concert was pulled entirely.
Over in Chicago, city officials locked down all public beaches and pools because inhaling the air was basically equivalent to chain-smoking unfiltered cigarettes. Meanwhile, New York City got shrouded in a grim haze once again, prompting Mayor Zohran Mamdani to beg residents to stop trying to be heroes and stay indoors. An entire slice of the country is effectively breathing pure tree ash just to step outside.
Checking the morning weather forecast now requires checking whether the local sky is actual atmosphere or just imported smoke.
