BP Profits Surge 143% While the Rest of Us Pay for the Iran Conflict
War is apparently great for the bottom line if you own a massive oil company.
While the world is busy stressing over the conflict in Iran, BP just dropped its second-quarter earnings report. Turns out, they cleared $5.7 billion. That is more than double what they made in the same period last year.
Donald Trump (male) is busy yelling that these oil giants are making way too much money off the supply shortage, but BP CEO Meg O'Neill (female) basically shrugged. She claims they are just selling a global commodity and prices aren't really up to them. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is just watching the pump prices climb.
It is definitely a weird look to watch oil companies celebrate record windfalls while everyone else is getting crushed by energy bills. It seems like the only thing flowing faster than oil right now is the cash into corporate pockets.
