Todd Blanche nomination moves forward after 'anti-weaponization' fund vanishes
The Senate Judiciary Committee just gave the green light to Donald Trump's pick for Attorney General, but there's a catch.
It seems like Todd Blanche really wanted that promotion. After weeks of his nomination being stuck in limbo because of a massive $1.7 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund, he finally pulled the plug. The fund—which would have compensated Jan. 6 rioters and protected Donald Trump from IRS audits—was suddenly labeled dead by Blanche in a social media post.
Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, who were previously blocking the move, suddenly found their concerns mysteriously satisfied by that single piece of paper. The committee voted 12-10 to push his nomination to the full Senate.
Of course, the opposition isn't buying it. Dick Durbin pointed out the obvious: Blanche just posted an order, but he didn't actually sign a legal settlement with the other parties involved. The whole thing is legally shaky at best, and there is nothing stopping the fund from magically reappearing the moment he gets confirmed.
It is amazing how quickly billions of dollars can vanish from existence just to clear a path to a cabinet seat.
