Why Bill Gates is explaining his love life to Congress

Original version ·

Just when you thought the tech billionaire's laundry couldn't get any more publicly aired, Bill Gates has to explain to actual politicians why he was hanging out with Jeffrey Epstein.

So, Bill Gates just testified before the House Oversight Committee, and his defense is essentially: "Yeah, I was stupid, and also he was blackmailing me about my marriage."

It turns out Epstein managed to wiggle his way into Gates' orbit back in 2011 by promising to raise billions for global health. Standard billionaire networking stuff, except for the part where Epstein was already a convicted sex offender. Gates says he didn't do his homework and ignored the red flags.

But here is where it gets spicy. After Gates tried to cut ties in 2014, Epstein allegedly tried to drag him back in. How? By dropping hints that he knew about Gates cheating on his wife. He basically weaponized the tech mogul's marital infidelity to keep him on the hook.

Gates insists he never went to the infamous island, ranch, or Florida mansion, and that he's incredibly sorry he ever took that first meeting.

It turns out even the guy who built Microsoft can't install a firewall strong enough to protect himself from his own bad life choices.
