Berkeley Law Gets Caught Trying to Sidestep the Supreme Court
The Department of Justice is calling foul on Berkeley Law for allegedly playing favorites with admissions.
So, the Department of Justice just took a long, hard look at Berkeley Law and didn't like what they saw. Apparently, the school wasn't exactly following the post-Harvard memo on race-conscious admissions.
The feds are claiming the school used essay questions about 'diversity' as a backdoor way to sort applicants by race. They even pointed to forms that basically nudge students to self-identify their background to get into specific, pre-grouped pockets. The stats they cite are pretty wild, noting that admitted Black applicants in recent cycles had significantly lower test scores than their White or Asian counterparts.
Harmeet Dhillon, who’s leading the charge for the DOJ, is accusing the school of showing a total disregard for the law. Naturally, Berkeley Law is firing back, claiming they definitely follow the rules and that merit is their only North Star.
It is almost as if the school thought they could just add a fancy creative writing prompt and make the Supreme Court ruling vanish.
