Federal officials are turning down the tap on the Colorado River, and it is going to cost residents.
The feds just stepped in to tell Arizona that the Colorado River supply is getting a serious trim. Officials swear nobody is going to wake up to a dry faucet, but keeping the water flowing is apparently getting pricey.
Basically, the less water available to pull from the river, the more you pay to keep the system running. It is the classic utility math: when supply drops, the maintenance bill for the pipes and infrastructure gets passed straight to the consumer.
Expensive water is still better than no water, but that logic provides little comfort while staring at a monthly utility bill.
