A campaign sign turned into a crime scene for Bernadette Greene-Placentia
Running for office in Arizona is dangerous, but usually it’s just the politics that are toxic.
Bernadette Greene-Placentia was just trying to fix a campaign sign in Sun City when things took a horrific turn. She was out in a parking lot when two men jumped her, knocked her out cold, and assaulted her. She is a former long-haul truck driver who spent decades on the road without incident, only to be brutally attacked in her own backyard while running for Congress.
She isn't sure if the attack was targeted because of her race against Abe Hamadeh or just a random, sick act of opportunity. The campaign is currently too broke to hire security, so they're just crossing their fingers. The irony of a candidate fighting for safety while facing such a personal violation is hard to miss.
Campaigning in America is becoming an extreme sport that no one signed up for.
