Judge Shreds DOJ for Dropping Charges Against Gautam Adani
It turns out if you promise a big enough investment, federal fraud charges might just vanish into thin air.
So, a federal judge just signed off on dropping the criminal case against billionaire Gautam Adani. But the judge was clearly not in a celebratory mood, spending his order absolutely roasting the Department of Justice for how they handled the exit.
The DOJ basically tried to pull the plug by claiming they didn't want to waste resources, while also hinting that the previous administration only brought the case to annoy Donald Trump. The judge called that excuse totally baseless and unbecoming of the office, noting there was zero evidence to back up those claims.
The irony is thick. Gautam Adani, who conveniently pledged a $10 billion investment in the United States right after the election, says he is just humbled by the whole process. Meanwhile, the judge pointed out the DOJ official in charge of this mess seemed to be working more with the defense team than his own colleagues.
Apparently, some legal quagmires are just too inconvenient to prosecute when there is a massive deal on the table.
